Early exit polls give Obama the edge

Early exit polls give Obama the edge

Early exit polls give Barack Obama the lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain in the presidential swing states of Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Ohio and Nevada. Obama has double-digit leads in those five states, according to early exit polls.
Exit polls show a close contest in Florida and North Carolina, according to a source familiar with the presidential campaign. The seven states are key to McCain's hopes of getting the necessary 270 electoral college votes needed to win Tuesday's presidential election.
Exit poll data gives McCain the lead in Georgia and Louisiana and Obama in Iowa and New Hampshire.
There have been past questions about early exit polls, including 2004's showing by Democrat John Kerry, who lost to George W. Bush even in states where early data showed Kerry ahead. Analysts say Democrats were earlier voters than Republicans in 2004 and that conservatives are less likely to respond to pollsters than liberals.
